If Christians Stepped Up

August 13, 2012

The political campaigns have begun … and so have the attacks.

People have loyalties to certain parties, politicians, and issues, which often divide friends, family members, and even Christians.

But what if during this election season Christians stepped up?

Instead of attacking, arguing, and perpetuating hate and division, what if Christians did what we are calling the politicians to do?

What if Christians …

    • Balanced their household budgets
    • Lived within their financial means
    • Gave 10% tithes to their local church
    • Donated money beyond their tithes to charities to help the less fortunate
    • Gave time, energy, and resources to mission organizations
    • Worked their jobs as unto the Lord
    • Woke up early to spend quiet time in Bible reading and prayer
    • Greeted their spouses, children, family members, and friends with joy
    • Were faithful to their spouses, honoring their marital commitments
    • Did not cheat, lie, or steal
    • Were not selfish, dishonest, and manipulative
    • Prayed for their enemies
    • Lived a healthy lifestyle
    • Loved their family and friends
    • Were known to be kind, caring, full of integrity, and truthful
    • Put others’ needs before their own
    • Loved the Lord God with all their hearts, souls, minds, and strengths
    • Loved their neighbors as themselves

What if Christians accomplished all of these things?

What if Christians loved instead of hated; were kind instead of spiteful; listened instead of argued; exhibited kindness instead heartlessness?

How much different—and so much better—would our country and world be?

What if Christians followed God’s commandment to love others?

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.”
(Matthew 22:36-39, NIV)

Thanks! Facebook and other social media perpetuates this hate, but Christians need to remember God said to LOVE OTHERS. Imagine if we really did?
