I Married My Best Friend

September 4, 2012

September 4, 1999

Thirteen years ago, I married my best friend. This year also marks us being together for 20 years! Yep, you’re right … we met when we were 10. Well, okay, we weren’t quite that young, but we were 16. He was cute with blonde hair, blue eyes, and he drove a Mustang. We became best friends almost immediately. The saying on our wedding program was, “Today I married my best friend.” Today, we’re still best friends.

We received a card with perfect words for thinking about the last 13 years:

Love has little to do

with moonlight and balconies

and everything to do

with patience, acceptance,

and hanging in there.

Love can’t always

move mountains

or change the world overnight.

But it can open its arms

at the end of a long, bad day

and welcome you home

to true belonging.

Love brings a beautiful wholeness.

Nothing else quite compares

with the sense of completeness

that comes from sharing

with that one special person for a lifetime.

Happy Anniversary, Sweetie!
